Scientists at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography have found that land-based plants have been developing fewer microscopic holes on the surface of leaves. These ‘stomata’ holes take up CO2 and allow water to evaporate. With fewer holes, far less water evaporates, and more H2O is available for photosynthesis. My understanding is that the increase in efficiency for photosynthesis increases CO2 absorption from the atmosphere.
