theme: OCEAN Was thinking about how we will rid the oceans of plastic when I created this painting. I’m impressed by the technologies that Boyan Slat, founder of The Ocean Cleanup, has developed. His cleanup system uses garbage-collecting booms that float like a mini-coastline. Similar to a beach, the booms passively gather the plastics. They are held in place with anchors and can drift with the same deep water tides that are moving the garbage patches. Garbage collectors in boats can then fish the plastics out of the sea. It’s a reminder that many climate issues can be solved with methods that integrate the natural systems of nature.
