Migrating Cranes

Sustainability

theme: CLIMATE
Close to 40,00 migrating cranes have decided to prolong their stay in Israel instead of traveling to neighboring desert areas that have become larger and hotter due to climate change. In the past, the wintering birds would stopover for only brief periods of time before continuing their journey. The hungry birds have been consuming the abundant corn and peanut crops in the Agamon Hula Lake area. Overwhelmed by the situation, farmers are feeding 9 tons of corn each day to the snow birds to preserve their plants.
