Bedforms

This lyrical landscape is a sand painting sculpted by wind and water. The coastal tide etched graceful grooves and glistening ripples in the sand when it rolled out to sea. Waves transform the miniature geography in gentle flows… again and again.

Wind and water flows created this crocodile-hide texture in loose sand in a tidal creek. The outgoing tide sculpted the ripples. As air passes through sand, the pulse of life in the ocean generates dynamic features on the beach surface.

The reptilian pattern got me thinking about crocodiles. Predator and prey, they co-existed with dinosaurs. The well-armored and scaly skinned reptiles help maintain balance in the complex web of life.
